About
"Hey... we both have a lot of books, right?"That was the conversation between two friends that sparked an idea. What if they found a place to put all their books where others could share and enjoy them? And thus, A Novel Place was born!
OOC: This is a casual, beginner-friendly RP venue. Our goalis to bring together new and old roleplayers alike by blending the coziness of a library setting with our own brand of eccentric for a truly unique RP experience.

When visiting A Novel Place, please abide by the following rules:

☆ Books have a return window of one month. Please check them in to avoid late-fees!
Note: All late fees are IC. We don't charge real gil!☆ Please take care of your rented books! We want them to last a long time.☆ No payment is required to use the library at any time; however, tips are appreciated!☆ Library cards are not required. In addition to normal library services, we offer the following activities for our patrons:
Book Club
Join our once-monthly book club where we discuss this month's chosen literature. The catch is... the book doesn't actually exist. Participants in the book club will improvise the plot of a story using only the title and a brief fictional synopsis. This can be as silly or as serious as participants want it to be! At the end of each book club, we will select the following month's book to read.
Rules/Notes:
Given the nature of this event, please don't suggest a book that actually exists or that your character has a personal connection to, unless you don't mind the plot being improvised. Because the stories are made up, so there is no way to get the story "wrong."Mature themes are allowed, but please avoid improvising VERY dark/taboo topics into books. Please participate at your own discretion.Book club is open for everyone! You do not have to have attended a previous book club to participate.

Check-Out Mammet
Introducing our state-of-the-art check-out mammet! This mammet allows you to check books in and out during off hours (or when our employees are preoccupied elsewhere!). Simply scan your library card and front cover under the mammet's watchful gaze and your data will be recorded!Normal check-out services will also be available during open hours. (And please use them. Lavender will get sad otherwise.)
Self-Serve Snack Station
We offer a variety of cookies, tea, coffee, and other snacks for you to enjoy during your reading experience. Please be mindful around the books! No one likes crummy novels!

This summer, our theme is centered around confidence building and putting yourself out there! And what better way to practice the art of faking it until you make it than through the art of professional faking: ACTING! This summer, join us as we multiclass into performers with a series of lessons centered around script writing, character exploration, presentation, thinking on your feet and MORE!
June
In June, we be started with the foundation of most productions: the script. We learned all about the process that goes into script writing, and worked together to make short two-act play!Activity: Collaborative Scriptwriting SessionCompanion Reading: Crafting and Gathering Scripts - A guide to the basic fundamentals of scriptwriting, including topics such as research (gathering) and formatting (crafting). Not to be confused with scrips of any hue.
July
In July, we'll be practicing our ability to react to any situation; and we mean any situation! Join us for a quick lesson on thinking on your feet, and then a few improv scenarios for those brave enough to put their skills to the test!Activity: Improv Scenes

Ever wanted to do daring stunts and convincingly stab your opponents without getting yourself or someone else killed? Then do we have the class for you! Join us for our final SRP activity: the Stage Combat Workshop!Activity: Stage Combat Demonstration/Lesson
Companion Reading: Slapstick and Stage Tricks - A beginner's guide to the arts of theatrical blocking, fight choreography, pratfalls, and everything else you'd need to fake an injury!OOC Info: For this activity, we'll be using Grindstone combat rules to "act out" fight choreography. For a quick overview of the mechanics, please check out the link! We will also be doing an IC demonstration to explain the mechanics before the first fight.
RULES:
1. This is meant to be ACTING, so all weapons will be very convincing looking props. We will have props available to borrow, if you need one! There are also going to be special breakaway props indicated by the librarians.2. Do not attempt to actually harm your opponent --
we haven't done the paperwork and we can't afford another lawsuit.3. Try to keep the combat/tomfoolery IN the practice ring! Please don't damage the library!4. To let as many people fight as possible, our rounds will be first to three OR 15 minutes, whichever comes first. Since there is a fight timer, please be mindful to not make your responses super long.5. A Novel Place is NOT responsible for anyone getting hurt. We think. This summer, our theme is centered around self-improvement. We want to encourage our patrons to break past their limits and level-up their skills! Whether it's improving an old skill, brushing the dust off something you haven't done in years, or learning something new entirely, please join us as we learn together and HOPEFULLY don't burn the library down in the process!

We kicked off our programming by reading Sketchy Business - a book about improving your art with daily quick sketches. For our book club, we put what we learned to the test by drawing new covers for some of our favorite books in under an hour with less-than-conventional art tools. The results were as incredible as you might expect...

July's Summer Raiding Program was the Great Bookish Bake-Off! We read this summer's hottest cookbook, Occult Croissant, and attempted one of the recipes: The TON-Berry Tart, a pastry filled with matcha-infused cream and topped with fresh rolanberries.Although our bakers were only competing with themselves (technically), we did rank our favorite pastries based on structure, flavor, and presentation! Below were the official tart rankings!

August
For our final program, we focused on body improvement -- and how a healthy body leads to a healthy mind! In preparation, we read Steppe Up, a Xaela's guide to a healthier lifestyle focused on clean eating, meditation, and lots and LOTS of physical activity.After a quick warm up, we were lead through a SteppeFit workout routine from Probably-A-Licensed-Coach Ganzaya Gesi. The most important lesson was that breaking ANY limit is possible with support from your friends!
A Novel Place
Esteemed Library Patrons:At this time, A Novel Place's normal operating hours will be Temporarily Suspended due to a temporal disturbance, resulting in a clutch of dragon eggs being deposited in the Children's Section (yes, really).Due to the sensitive nature of this situation (and Gridania's laws on not disturbing endangered species, which we're pretty sure these guys are), we will not be able to open for large gatherings/book clubs until the eggs have hatched. The library will still be open for individual or small group use. The Summer Raiding Program will continue to be updated until we re-open. Chapters can still be reported to Lavender Abernathy or Maya Drache.We appreciate your patience while we resolve this issue.
